After the appellate court ratified the death sentence handed down against him, there is
concern for his life. Behrooz was arrested three years ago along with 15 other people on charges of conspiring with PEJAK. He was later charged with involvement in the assassination of the prosecutor general of the city of Khoy and sentenced to death. According to his brother, Behrooz was severely tortured during his arrest and interrogation. His interrogators bored a hole in his foot with an electric drill and broke his fingers. They connected an electric shocker to his head and beat his head with a cable. Behrooz has denied any involvement in the assassination of the prosecutor general.
