The Conservative member was one of the key speakers at a conference of nearly 400 MPs and peers from the Houses of Parliament on June 28 to discuss how the UK can offer help.

Concerns were expressed over recent increases in the number of executions in Iran and the use of punishments such as flogging and amputations by Iranian authorities.

Mr Offord said: “Daily reports of appalling abuses by the authorities in Iran show that none of the rulers in the country are interested in concrete and genuine changes that address the actual concerns of the Iranian people, in particular the youth and women that represent a majority of the population.”

Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, was also in attendance.

Mr Offord and Mr Freer will join their Anglo-Iranian constituents as well as 28 other MPs at a major gathering in Paris on July 9 to show solidarity with Iranian victims and demand change to policy.
