A court in Iran has sentenced prominent pro-reform figure Rajabali Mazrooei to eighteen months in prison.
According to conservative website Mashregh news, Mazrooei has been sentenced to eighteen months in jail for charges for allegedly “insulting” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and “propaganda” against the state. Based on the ruling by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, he’s also banned from membership in political parties and press-related activities.
Mazrooei, a former parliamentarian, served as a senior economic aid to former President Mohammad Khatami.
He was forced to flee the country in the aftermath of the widely disputed presidential election in June 2009.
