Dr. Hesam Firoozi is under torture in Tehran’s Evin Prison and is being pressured to confess to false charges.
RAHANA – Human rights activist, Dr. Hesam Firoozi is under continued pressure in Tehran’s Evin Prison. Earlier after a prison visit in March, Firoozi’s wife said he had lost about 20 kilograms in less than a month.
A prisoner who has recently been released from Ward 2A of Evin Prison told RAHANA, Dr. Firoozi has been subjected to harsh physical and psychological torture during his detention in order to confess and accept false charges.
The newly freed prisoner told a RAHANA reporter that other human rights activists are also under pressure and are being tortured at Ward 2A of Evin which is run by the IRGC. Currently a number of rights activists are detained in Ward 2A, including Abdolreza Ahmadi, Abolfazl Abedini, Alireza Firoozi, Milad Ebrahimian, Mohammad Reza Lotfi and others.
Blogger and human rights activist, Dr. Hesam Firoozi was arrested and taken to Evin on March 3, when a wave of arrests targeted human rights activists nationwide. Firoozi has only called his family once since his arrest. On March 22, he visited with his wife with agents present during the visit. Since that date his family has had no news of him and is increasingly worried over his condition. Judicial authorities refuse to answer the family’s enquiries.
