Marzieh Vafamehr, the Iranian filmmaker and actress, has been detained by Iranian authorities for over two weeks.
The Kaleme opposition website reports that, according to her family and relatives, the authorities’ point of contention is Vafamehr’s leading role in a 2009 film by Iranian exiled director/poet Geranaz Moussavi entitled “My Tehran for Sale.”
The film, in which Vafamehr portrays an artist living independently in Tehran, delves into current social problems and malaise in Iran.
The title character meets a young man at a party, which opens new doors to her and eventually leads her to decide to leave the country.
Vafamehr appears in some parts of the film with a shaved head and without any head scarves to cover her head.
Kaleme reports that authorities have also summoned and questioned several other people who worked on the film.
Iran’s House of Cinema has been trying to secure Vafamehr’s release but so far has been unsuccessful, Kaleme reports.
