Iranian Media Says Missile Able To Hit Israel Tested

0

Iranian media say the Islamic republic’s military has successfully test-fired a medium-range Shahab-3 ballistic missile capable of striking Iranian rival Israel.

Iran says the Shahab-3 has a range of up to 2,000 kilometers. Israel is some 1,000 kilometers away from Iran. The missile was tested as part of the “Great Prophet 7” military exercises that began on July 2 amid increasing Western pressure on Tehran over its nuclear program, including a European Union oil embargo that went into effect on July 1.

The Fars news agency said that “dozens” of different types of missiles were fired from different parts of Iran at a single target in the Kavir Desert.

General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, who heads the Republican Guards’ aerospace division, said the exercises had so far tested missiles with ranges of 300 to 1,300 kilometers.

Reports say the exercise targeted a replica military base set up in the desert and made to look like a foreign facility, similar to those the United States has in neighboring countries such as Afghanistan.

According to the official Islamic Republic News Agency, the second-ranking official in the Revolutionary Guards, General Hossein Salami, said — in what’s seen as a clear reference to Israel and the United States — that the exercises were “a reaction to those who are politically discourteous to the Iranian people by saying ‘all options are on the table.'”

Washington and its ally Israel have repeatedly said that all options — including a potential military strike — remain on the table to respond to the Iranian nuclear program. The United States says, however, that it remains committed to the search for a diplomatic solution.

Turkey Meeting ‘Technical’

The Iranian war games were being held as experts from Iran and six world powers were expected to hold talks on the nuclear dispute in Istanbul on July 3.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Selcuk Unal said the Istanbul meeting was expected to be “essentially technical” in nature, and no breakthroughs were expected.

The gathering is apparently being held to evaluate whether there is enough common ground to return to full-fledged talks.

Three previous rounds of talks this year — in Istanbul, Baghdad and Moscow – between Iran and the six world powers — Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States — have failed to ease the crisis over the nuclear dispute.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters on July 3 that, if the powers ignored Iran’s nuclear “rights” and failed to bargain on equal terms, the negotiations could lead to an “impasse.”

Mehmanparast reiterated Tehran’s message that Western sanctions — such as the EU oil embargo and U.S. measures targeting Iranian banks — would not coerce Iran into a change of position.

World powers suspect Iran’s nuclear program has military aims and have demanded Tehran stop enriching uranium, a process that could be directed for nuclear fuel or toward an atomic weapon.

Iran says its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only.

Jailed Iranian blogger Hossein Ronaghi Maleki has finally been given furlough on bail of one billion toumans after 32 months in jail and several hunger strikes.

The Kaleme website reported today that Ronaghi Maleki, who was arrested in the crackdown on protesters after the controversial 2009 presidential elections, was released today, Monday July 2.

During his time in jail, Ronaghi Maleki suffered from kidney problems and underwent several surgeries, but the judiciary refused to allow him leave to continue his treatment outside the prison.

His latest surgery was carried out two weeks ago and, despite the sensitive nature of the surgery, the jailed blogger was once again transferred back to Evin Prison, despite warnings from physicians that he is in need of special medical care.

In May, Ronaghi Maleki began a hunger strike to protest the judiciary’s refusal to allow him to get treatment outside of prison, and on June 4 he was transferred to hospital in critical condition.

Ronaghi Maleki ran a popular blog under the pseudonym Babak Khorramdin. He was arrested in December of 2009 and held in the solitary for close to 300 days, according to his family.

Illegal immigrants denied food and services

0

Iranian media report that the Fars Provincial government has prohibited the sale of food and the delivery of public and medical services to “illegal immigrants” in the province.

The province says it is attempting to prevent the spread of contagious diseases, and illegal residents have not gone through the stages of quarantine necessary to enter the country. Therefore, those who provide goods and services to “illegal immigrants” will reportedly face prosecution by Fars Province authorities.

Employers have also been warned against hiring illegal immigrants, and bakeries, grocery stores and medical centres are threatened with closure if they do so. In addition, authorities are calling on public transit operators to demand identification from foreign nationals.

The head of foreign nationals and immigrants’ affairs for Fars Province had announced previously that foreigners living there illegally had until June 22 to leave. He added that they will be placed in camps for identification and then deported back to their countries of origin.

In recent months, Afghan immigrants have faced escalating discrimination by various levels of the Islamic Republic government, which have introduced new restrictions on where they can live and work.

More than one million legal Afghan immigrants are said to be living in Iran. The deputy of foreign nationals and immigrants’ affairs reported last year that another two million Afghans are estimated to be living in Iran without legal status.

Basij has the ability to fire directly at heart of attacking country

Acting commander of the IRGC Ground Force Operations Division, Morteza Mirian, announced that according to orders from IRGC Ground Force Commander Pakpour, all acquisitions from abroad have ceased in order to strengthen and support national production, and that domestic needs are now being met by local production. Referring to what he called the IRGC’s superiority in the struggle against the enemy, he said that “Our enemies are equipped with non-conventional weapons that have led them to brag about their capabilities, but it is impossible to overcome the will of nations by force of arms. In the near future, we will be witnessing the transfer of arms and equipment to forces that the enemy cannot even envisage. Over three thousand ships and boats are plying the waters, both fishing and merchant vessels, and they regularly pass near US battleships, begging the question how the US wants to fight us in such a location? They only have to touch their weapons to see who will regret it. As the Supreme Leader has commanded, at every level we can threaten with reciprocal actions and make the aggressors regret their deeds. Obtaining nuclear weapons is contrary to religious law in our view. The Basij forces are our nuclear weapon. The power of Basij is infinite and deadly, and the enemy cannot even imagine it. The Basij has the ability to fire from point zero on the border, right at the heart of the aggressive country.

IRGC Missile Drill Highlights

IRGC launches dozens of various types of missiles as part of the second stage of the missile drill

In the second stage of what has been called the Great Prophet 7 missile drill, dozens of long-range and mid-range missiles were launched by the IRGC Aerospace Division simultaneously and from most areas of Iran towards a single target in Lut Desert. Missiles included Shahab 1, 2 and 3, Fateh-110, Qiam and Zelzal. The purpose was to hit simulated air force bases of foreign countries (primarily Western countries) aroundIran’s borders. IRGC Aerospace Division Commander, Brigadier General  Amir Ali Hajizadeh, announced that this drill involved the use of missiles capable of striking targets thousands of kilometers away. The programs, however, which were prepared in advance, only called for the missiles to be shot at a range of1300 kilometers. IRGC unmanned bombers successfully destroyed seven hypothetical bases of foreign forces set up in Lut Desert. Acting IRGC Commander, Hossein Salami, said at a press conference during the drill that the main purpose of the drill was to demonstrate Iran’s strong capability in defending its values and essential goals. He continued to say that it was a suitable response to those who “used impolite political statements against the Iranian people and claim that the military option is on the table.”

Iran determined to resist pressure and bullying

IRGC Aerospace Division Commander, Brigadier General  Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said that the purpose of the IRGC’S Great Prophet 7 missile drill was “to send a message to errant countries… As an outcome of this exercise, we would like to send a message to the misbehaving countries that we are determined to resist their pressure and bullying against Iran; we will respond harshly and decisively against any kind of possible threat and mischief. If something really happens, Iran’s surface-to-surface missiles, such as Saeqeh, will fall on their heads.”

IRGC missile maneuver to target models of regional foreign bases

IRGC Aerospace Force Commander, Brigadier General Hajizadeh, said that “In the sacred name of the Great Prophet, the IRGC’s surface-to-surface missile aerospace exercise (codenamed Great Prophet 7) will be held from July 2 for three days. Hajizadeh said that during the exercise, long-range, medium-range, and short-range missiles will be used to strike 100 predefined targets from various parts of Iran. He added that the major difference between Great Prophet 7 and previous IRGC (missile) exercises is setting up (and targeting) bases similar to foreign (mainly western) air bases in the middle of the (Semnan) desert. He said that targets in the Semnan Desert will be attacked from various parts of Iran, even from the Eastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province. After targeting these bases, experts will be able to measure the accuracy and effectiveness (BDA) of warheads and evaluate the systems under the created conditions. Hajizadeh referred to IRGC’s new achievements such as the Qyam (Uprising) surface-to-surface missile, saying that this missile is being produced on a massive scale and handed over to different units to be used in this exercise. He also mentioned the anti-ship Khalij-e Fars (Persian Gulf) missile, saying that work on it has been completed, and it is being produced at the Ministry of Defense.

IRGC Commander threatens Israel to wipe them off the face of the earth

IRGC Aerospace Force Commander: If Israel attacks us they will give us an excuse to wipe them off the face of the earth

Brigadier General Hajizadeh said ahead of the missile drill:

It (the UAV) was a good spy, but it betrayed America – “All of the RQ-170′s hardware has been decoded, and data has been extracted from it. No more ambiguities remain… It is as if we have entered a (huge) library and are exploring a lot of information there… It (the UAV) was a good spy, but it betrayed America. …We have not revealed anything about its espionage gear and capabilities yet… We were not the only ones who were not aware of its sensors and characteristics either, until its capture. It was based in Kandahar, and we even have information about its ‘nest.’

NATO’s missile defense shield in Turkey and the Persian Gulf is vulnerable against Iran’s ARM – NATO’s missile defense shield in Turkey and the Persian Gulf littoral states is vulnerable against Iran’s homemade “anti radiation (radar) ballistic missiles” (ARM), adding that in the near future, ARMs which have passed their research stage and are designed and manufactured by Iranian experts will be utilized. “This ballistic missile is able to target and destroy any source of radar radiation on land or at sea with high precision.”

Excuse to wipe Israel from the face of the earth – Israel “is not big enough to confront Iran,” and “If Israel had the ability to attack Iran, it would not hesitate. They were defeated by the Lebanese Hezbollah which is a small group. How will they be able to attack Iran now? If Israel wants to attack Iran, it has to get the support of the US. But since American bases are within the coverage range of our missiles and weapons, it (the US) will definitely not support the Israeli regime… If they make such a move, they will give us an excuse to wipe them off the face of the earth.”
