March 16, 2011

The Iranian regime has subjected political prisoners in Karaj’s Gohardasht prison to various types of pressures.

The agents of the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) at the prison keep the political prisoners in the cold under intolerable conditions.

The regime’s agents also deprive the prisoners of the most basic resources, including medicine and warm clothes brought to the prisoners by their own families, in order to exert more inhumane pressures on the prisoners.

Breaking News: 19 year old Student killed by Basiji forces during Fire Festival

March 16, 2011

Behoud Ramezani a 19 year old student was killed by basiji forces in Tehran

Eyewitness report:

Last night, Behnoud Ramezani was in the Narmak area in Tehran around Square 22, when he was attacked and killed by Basiji forces in Tehran.

It was around 10 PM local time, a number of young Iranian’s were heading back home from after celebrating Char Shambeh Soori ( The Iranian Fire festival),when  Basiji forces mounted on  Motorcycles attacked and beat the defenseless youths  with electric batons .

Behnoud like many young Iranians was carrying home-made fireworks in his pockets.  During the attack all the fireworks in his pockets exploded, and he was injured severely during the explosion, as his body was literally torn apart. It was probably one of the worst scene I have ever witness in my life.

Apart from myself, there were several others witness as well, and after hearing our screams and cries for help others soon arrived at the scene.

Two of the basijis abandoned their motorcycles and escaped with the help of other basijis on motorcycles.

10 minutes later an ambulance arrived and brought Behnoud to the hospital and his friends followed the ambulance with their own cars. After 30 minutes the staff at Al-Qadir hospital told us that his condition was critical, and there was little hope.

Today, when I went to the same place and asked people about last nights situation, everyone told me that they didn’t know anything! It was very strange for me!

After searching awhile in his neighborhood, finally I saw some  of his friends with his picture in their arms and they told me that he had died.

I asked them about Behnoud, and they told me that he was student at Mechanical Engineer  University in the Northern part of Iran, but he was from Tehran-Pars area in Tehran, and since he was a close friend of ours, he had come to visit us, but unfortunately he was killed by basiji forces!!

March 13, 2011

Dozens of protesters who were arrested on February 14 were abused and tortured in the Afsarieh Detention Center and were transferred to Evin Prison or released after 2 to 3 days. One of the detainees who was transferred to this detention center said, “I was kept with handcuffs and blindfolds in this detention center along with a number of other people. Because of the lack of space and the high number of detainees, we were forced to sleep in a sitting position in these three days”…
This protester who was arrested in the Keshavarz Blvd along with a number of other people was directly taken to the Revolutionary Guards Forces detention center in Afsarieh in Tehran.
“In the three days, our handcuffs were only taken off while we were eating and when we went to the restroom. They insulted us and many of the detainees were beaten by the agents”, he added.

Mourning Mothers of Laleh Park, threatend by security forces and blocked from gathering

March 9, 2011

According to Human Rights and Democracy Advocates in Iran, the “Mourning Mothers” who were gathered on International Woman’s Day were attacked by security forces in Amir Abad square.

Today at 4:30 PM, a number of  supporters of the “Mourning Mothers” of Laleh Park were gathered near Amir Abad square when a wave of Basiji’s  in the area surrounded one of the supporters with batons drawn, and threatened the Mothers who were present. The Basiji’s who were between 14 and 16 years old, continually harassed and threatened one of the Mothers while following her out of the park.

Also, the area which was to be the site of the “Mourning Mothers” gathering point for today was under intense security pressure, such that anyone who neared the area was threatened with violence by security forces. The security forces quickly broke up  any groups of 2 to 3 Mothers which approached the site, and forced them to leave the area. The would not allow anyone to even stand in the area, even for a short period of time.  The “Mourning Mothers” tried their best to perform the agreed upon ceremony for International Women’s day, but because of the presence and threats of security forces in the area, they were not able to do so.

Over 100 political prisoners on hunger strike in Iran

0

Tuesday 08 March 2011

Last Tuesday, the Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners reported that 59 political prisoners in Rajai Shahr ‘Gohardasht’ prison (Karaj) launched a hunger strike in protest to the suppression of the Iranian people’s righteous resistance and against the limitations imposed inside the prison.

According to HRANA, yesterday morning, 70 political prisoners in Orumiyeh prison (Northwestern Iran) also launched a mass hunger strike. Most of the prisoners are from the Kurdish and Azeri Turk ethnic minorities. The hunger strike is in protest to, a ban on prison visits, the lack of access to phone contacts, and the restriction on contacts with other prisoners.

Prison officials along with the prison director have negotiated with the prisoners, with the goal of convincing them to end their strike. The prisoners, however, rejected an end to their strike. They have stated that there is only room for negotiation if the director general of prisons in the Western Azerbaijan province visits ward 12 of Orumiyeh prison.

In the wake of the secret execution of Hossein Khezri (Kurdish political activist) in Orumiyeh prison, severe restrictions have been imposed on ward 12. Some of the prisoners have been repeatedly transferred to the Intelligence bureau or to solitary confinement cells where they are interrogated and tortured.

Iran forces fire tear gas at protesters

Tuesday 08 March 2011

AFP, Iranian security forces fired tear gas at anti-government protesters as they tried to hold a demonstration in Tehran on Tuesday, the opposition website Kaleme.com reported.

“Security forces blocked the roads to Enghelab (Revolution) Square (in central Tehran) and fired tear gas at people several times as they tried to stage anti-government demonstrations,” the website said.

Kalame.com reported “heavy security force deployments in several of Tehran’s main squares.”

Foreign media have been banned from on-the-spot reporting of any unauthorised gatherings.

The reports of the demonstration came after Kaleme.com said that opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi and his wife Zahra Rahnavard were at their home and not in jail as it had previously reported.

“In recent days it has become evident to Kaleme.com that Mrs Rahnavard and Mr Mousavi… are under house arrest and so the news of their transfer from their home to a detention centre needs to be corrected and we apologise to our readers,” the website said.

The website of Iran’s other main opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi said it had no new information about his whereabouts but believed he had been taken into custody.

“Unfortunately until this moment we have no information on the situation of Mehdi Karroubi and (his wife) Fatemeh Karroubi,” his Sahamnews.org website said.

“According to strong evidence, we believe he is not at home and has been transferred to an unknown location,” it added, saying it had spoken to one of his relatives.

Kaleme.com stressed that Mousavi and his wife remained under house arrest, a sanction it described as “unethical and illegal.”

“Given the complete cutting off of their communications with the outside world… it does indeed constitute house arrest, something which so far no one in the judiciary has officially acknowledged,” the website said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi reiterated that both couples were in their homes, dismissing previous claims by their websites that they had been moved to a prison.

“The media should pay attention to what the Tehran prosecutor is saying. The claims of these people are sheer lies and they are at their homes with their wives,” the Fars news agency quoted Dolatabadi as saying.

Reports that the two opposition leaders and their wives were under “complete house arrest” first emerged after their supporters held anti-government protests on February 14, the first in a year.

Mousavi and Karroubi, who both stood unsuccessfully against hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a 2009 election they say was rigged, strongly oppose his government and have guided a series of protests against him.

The Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope, an umbrella group backing the two leaders, had called for fresh protests on Tuesday to mark International Women’s Day.

Since February 14, there have been two further attempts to hold protests — on February 20 and on March 1. Both were met with a massive security force deployment in the capital.
