Iran-backed Hackers Exposed Using Dutch Data Center For Espionage
Bitdefender security company and Argos radio program have announced that they found a server in a data hub near Haarlem used by the Islamic Republic of Iran to spy on dissidents and political opposition.
An Iranian man in the Netherlands tipped the Argos program off by sending them an infected file that he had received from that server on the Telegram messenger app but had not opened.
Argos sent the file to Bitdefender and the security company tracked the file to the server in Haarlem, revealing that the regime of Iran is trying to hack into personal computers and cellphones of its dissidents in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and India.
According to Bitdefender, the server is a command-and-control type server. Hackers use these types of servers to control infected devices and steal personal information.
