While Canadian Jewish group welcomed the move by Canada’s government to designate several Islamic extremists, neo-Nazi, and white-supremacist groups as terror groups on Wednesday, some expressed disappointment that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps was not included.

“B’nai Brith Canada welcomes today’s listing of new far-right, mostly neo-Nazi groups & ISIS/Al-Qaeda affiliates as part of Canada’s ongoing fight against terrorism.

That being said, we remain disturbed by the govt’s longstanding failure to list the IRGC,” the group tweeted.

“Ultimately, the IRGC is much more dangerous than any of the groups listed, and constitutes a real and present danger to Iranian dissidents, the Jewish community and Canadians in general,” it emphasized.

An Iranian who claimed diplomatic immunity from prosecution was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Belgian court on Thursday for an attempted 2018 bombing in Paris.

The court in Antwerp convicted Assadollah Assadi, who was attached to the Iranian mission in Austria when he supplied explosives for the planned attack on a rally organized by exiled Iranian opposition activists in the French capital.

His conviction is the first time an Iranian official has been sentenced for terrorism in the European Union since Iran’s 1979 revolution, and it comes as President Joe Biden is considering whether to rejoin the historic 2015 nuclear accord and to lift the sanctions on Iran that were reimposed by his predecessor Donald Trump.

The 2018 planned bombing was thwarted and Assadi, now 49,  was arrested in Germany in July 2018. German and Belgian authorities dismissed his claim of diplomatic immunity. Three accomplices, all dual Iranian-Belgians, were also given jail terms of between 15 and 18 years for their roles in the plot.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force announced in a statement on Wednesday that two Iranian border guards abducted by Jeish al-Adl terrorist group at the border with Pakistan two years ago have been released.

The IRGC Ground Force’s Qods Base in Southeastern Iran said in the statement that two of the Iranian border guards were freed in a successful intelligence operation on Tuesday night.

It added that the border guards had been abducted two years ago by Jeish al-Adl terrorist group.

Jewish Al-Adl, a Pakistan-based radical Wahhabi terrorist group staging cross border attacks into Southeastern Iran from South-West Pakistan, had also claimed responsibility for the February 2019 attack which martyred and wounded dozens of IRGC members after their bus came under a terrorist attack in the province.

The group has bases in Southwestern Pakistan and started operations after recruiting the remnants of Jundullah’s notorious terrorist group and reorganizing them.

Iran had captured leaders of Jundullah’s notorious Wahhabi terrorist group and dismantled the terrorist organization years earlier.

In mid-October 2018, the group abducted 14 Iranian Basijis (volunteer forces) and border guards at the Mirjaveh border in the Southeastern Sistan-Balouchestan province.

Five were released a month later on November 15.

The IRGC Ground Force then blamed foreign intelligence services for supporting and assisting the terrorist group.

Another four were released in March 2019.

Jewish al-Adl also abducted five Iranian border guards in the Jakigour region of Sistan and Baluchistan Province and took them to Pakistan in 2014.

After two months of abduction, four of them were released and the fifth one was killed. His body was returned to Iran months later.

Then early in March 2015, Pakistani sources told the country’s media that authorities in Southwestern Pakistan had arrested the ringleader of the Jeish al-Adl terrorist group.

In the summer of 2018, an Iranian-Belgian couple was detained attempting to drive into France while carrying 500 grams of the high-explosive TATP. The following day, an Iranian “diplomat” was arrested in Germany for having personally delivered the explosives to that couple along with instructions on how to operate it and where to place it. A fourth accomplice was also detained by French authorities after having infiltrated the target venue, a convention space just outside Paris that played host to an annual gathering organized by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

The terror plot remained under investigation for about two and a half years before the diplomat-terrorist, Assadollah Assadi, went on trial alongside his co-conspirators last November. The verdict was originally scheduled to be read out before the end of January, but is expected on Thursday. Given the strength of the evidence that has been made available to the public, there does not seem to be much doubt about the defendants being pronounced guilty, though it remains to be seen whether the judge will follow prosecutors’ recommendation to hand Assadi the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

It also remains to be seen whether the consequences of the terror plot and subsequent prosecution will extend beyond the lives of the four defendants, as they should. In a report on the then-ongoing investigation in February 2020, the Belgian National Security Service emphasized that the terror plot was “developed in the name of Iran at the request of its leadership” and that “Assadi didn’t initiate the plans himself.” This has naturally led to widespread calls for accountability from the Iranian regime as a whole. Dozens of European policymakers have expressed that sentiment in at least two recent statements addressed to leading officials in the European Union and the Council of Europe.

Iran deepens breach of nuclear deal at underground enrichment site

Iran has deepened a key breach of its 2015 nuclear deal, enriching uranium with a larger number of advanced centrifuge machines in an underground plant as it faces off with the new U.S. administration on salvaging the accord.

Tehran has recently accelerated its breaches of the deal, raising pressure on U.S. President Joe Biden as both sides say they are willing to come back into compliance with the badly eroded agreement if the other side moves first.

Iran began its breaches in 2019 in response to Washington’s withdrawal in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump and the reimposition of U.S. economic sanctions against Tehran that were lifted under the deal.

The accord says Iran can refine uranium only at its main enrichment site – an underground plant at Natanz – with first-generation IR-1 centrifuges. Last year Iran began enriching there with a cascade, or cluster, of much more efficient IR-2m machines and in December said it would install three more.

The Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a new Sector Operations Center (SOC) in Northwestern Iran for joint air defense operations against possible enemy threats.

The SOC was inaugurated in a ceremony participated by Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Qader Rahimzadeh on Monday on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Addressing the ceremony, General Rahimzadeh said that the enemies won’t be able to strike a blow to the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic the same way they have failed in such efforts in the past 4 decades.

“Today, unity and empathy between the Army and the IRGC forces are much more than ever before, and we are witnessing a well-ordered structure in the integrated air defense network to protect the Islamic Iran’s sky,” he added.

The Iranian Army and the IRGC last October staged joint aerial wargames codenamed ‘Modafe’an-e Aseman-e Velayat 99’ (Guardians of Velayat’s Sky-99) on Wednesday.

IRGC Commander: Iran Needless of N. Deal

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami said that Iran has grown so self-sufficient and self-reliant in different fields that it can continue its path of progress without agreement with the world powers.

“Today, we have come to a point that we have really grown needless of the nuclear deal and we have understood that we should prioritize efforts to become needless of sanctions removal rather than staying in need of the removal of embargos,” General Salami said, addressing a gathering of Basij (volunteer) forces in Tehran on Sunday.

He underlined that the Iranian nation has always solved problems, and said, “Our enemies had big dreams and (now) they have forgotten all of them altogether; now they are watchful not to sustain heavier defeats at our hands.”

General Salami warned that the hegemonic enemies are used to enmity with independent countries like Iran even if they stretch their hand for friendship.

His remarks came after Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced that the country is at present producing nearly half a kilo of uranium enriched to the 20% purity level, meantime, saying that Tehran’s steps to reduce nuclear deal undertakings after the West’s disloyalties can all be backtracked.

“Based on the latest news I have, they (the Iranian scientists at nuclear installations) are producing 20 grams (of 20% enriched uranium) every hour; meaning that practically, we are producing half a kilo every day,” Salehi said in an interview with the Persian-language Khamenei.ir website released last week.

“We produce and store this 20% (enriched uranium) and if they return to the nuclear deal, we will return to our undertakings too,” he added.

Asked about the recent bill approved by the parliament to adopt strategic measures to remove sanctions against Iran, Salehi said that the AEOI is required to implement it.

He was also found to have been involved in the killing of two Revolutionary Guards’ members in 2015, as well as leading a raid to abduct five border guards, one of whom was killed, it added. Who is Jaish al-Adl? Pakistan-based militant group Jaish al-Adl has been involved in a number of deadly attacks on the Shiite country’s soldiers and installations in the past few years, including the February 2019 suicide attack that killed 27 Iranian security forces along the Iran-Pakistan border. Jaish al-Adl has been targeting Iranian soldiers for many yearsThe groups previously claimed responsibility for attacks that killed border guards in 2013 and 2015. Jaish al-Adl is a Sunni militant group, which is fighting against what it says is discrimination against Sunni Muslims and ethnic Baluch in the Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan. The region is known as home to drug smugglers, as well as Sunni militants, both of whom regularly clash with Iranian security forces. In July 2019, former US President Donald Trump’s administration designated Jaish al-Adl as a global terrorist organization. The militant group was formed in 2012 as a successor to another Sunni extremist group Jundallah (Soldiers of God), which had waged a deadly insurgency in Iran.
