IRGC Forms Three Headquarters in a Row: Will It Resolve Iran’s Crises or Will It Further        Oppression?

On Wednesday, Hossein Salami, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Commander in Chief, announced the formation of a headquarters for controlling prices and fighting extortion in Iran.

Having the IRGC, as a force that has monopolized and dominated Iran’s economy, to resolve the country’s economic crisis is like asking an arsonist to put out the fires.

As an example, according to the interview of the state-run Sharq newspaper with Brig. Gen.

Abdollah Abdollahi, on December 17, 2014, the IRGC’s Khatam Al-Anbiya Construction Headquarter is the largest contractor for government projects. It has 5,000 subcontractors and about 135,000 employees.

This cartel enjoys the complete support of the regime and has easy access to banking and financial resources and sustained contracts with no competitive bidding.

Along with monopolizing Iran’s economy, the IRGC has been plundering national wealth to fund its illicit activities both inside and outside Iran.

While Iranian people are grappling with poverty and the COVID-19 crisis, the IRGC unveiled its automatic and intelligent system of consecutive long-range ballistic missile launches.

The IRGC commander bragged about fighting extortion, while the existence of the IRGC, as Iran has an official army, is under question.

IRGC receives an official budget, along with billions of dollars in assets, while it is absolutely not necessary for Iran to have a second army.

Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, announced a new “headquarters” on Wednesday to combat soaring prices in Iran.

In a speech a day earlier, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had raised concern over the skyrocketing cost of essential commodities and called on the IRGC’s Basij Force to step in and rein unaffordable prices in coordination with President Hassan Rouhani’s administration.

The Basij or the “Mobilization Resistance Force” is one of the five forces of the IRGC and a paramilitary volunteer militia established in Iran in 1979.

It initially consisted of civilian volunteers urged by the Islamic Republic founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, to fight in the Iran–Iraq War.

However, after the devastating war, Iranian authorities unleashed Basij members to suppress anti-regime protests.

Per Salami, following Khamenei’s remarks on the ever-increasing cost of essential goods in Iran, the IRGC held a joint meeting with the Ministers of Agriculture Jihad, Mines, Industry, and Trade, Justice, the Islamic Republic Prosecutor-General, and the representatives of the country’s police, and all other relevant monitoring and intelligence services. The officials decided to combine the IRGC and Basij’s influences with other state entities’ capabilities to control essential commodities’ prices, Salami said, and a “headquarters” for combating soaring prices were proposed.”The IRGC has a variety of capabilities that it will mobilize to assist the two ministries,” Salami said, praising the potential of coordination between Basij, MIMT, and Ministry of Agriculture Jihad. The establishment of various headquarters by the IRGC or in tandem with other state-run entities is one of Iran’s methods whenever the nation confronts a critical situation. Most of these headquarters are established by Khamenei’s direct orders, though a clear final report.

IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami said on Thursday that Iran will react decisively to any threat in its border areas.

“Our red line is sustainable security and any insecurity and threat in borders that harms our dear people’s security and peace of mind is not acceptable,” Salami said as he visited border areas of Iran’s northeastern region.

He said Iran is determined to strengthen its defense and security measures to preserve security at the border areas which are close to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict zone.

Since late September, heavy clashes have been underway between Azerbaijani and Armenian military forces over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Both sides blame each other for initiating the fighting in the Caucasus Mountains. It has been the worst spate of fighting between the two former Soviet republics since the 1990s. Salami’s comments came after the Iranian Armed Forces warned the warring sides of a tough response if its border security is threatened. Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi, the spokesman of the Iranian Armed Forces, said in late October that “while strengthening defensive [measures] in Iran’s borderlines, the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic announce that security in the border areas and of the Iranian people is their red line.”Elsewhere in his Thursday remarks, the IRGC’s chief commander said, “Sustainable security is our red line and any form of insecurity and threat along borders, which would harm security and peace of mind of our dear people, would be unacceptable.”Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has voiced regret over the “bitter incident” between the two sides, suggesting that the main solution to the problem is a return of all occupied lands of Azerbaijan by Armenia.

The automated launcher was said to be a smart, entirely homemade product.

The IRGC commander, Hossein Salami, introduced the new system with his signature scathing rhetoric against Iran’s “enemies” and a message of defiance to the United States and European countries that Iran’s missile program is not up for negotiation.

“Our missiles make our enemies shiver and force them into retreat. … And if need be, this fearsome program will impose our political will upon them.”

And the unit’s commander, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, issued a warning of his own after the unveiling ceremony, saying, “The enemies will face a heavy barrage of missiles if they make the tiniest mistake.”The IRGC inauguration coincided with tight ballot counting in the US presidential election, where the two candidates, despite disagreeing on many issues, have both shared concerns about Iran’s missile program, albeit with different tones. The same worries have for years also been expressed by the United Nations and European leaders, who have pressed Iran to come to the negotiating table to discuss its missiles; this is a demand the Iranian leadership has adamantly rejected, defending its missile program as a legitimate right guaranteed by its doctrine of deterrence. The missile program has been a recurring motif in speeches by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is also the country’s commander in chief. Americans are heading to the polls Tuesday for the 2020 presidential and congressional election, with the US Elections Project estimating that over 99 million people have already voted early in what is shaping up to be the most divisive election in modern US history.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite branch of the Iranian Armed Forces tasked with defending the country’s Islamic republican political system, has weighed in on the US election, indicating that neither of America’s two major political parties can guarantee normalized relations with Tehran. “After more than 60 years of confrontation and animosity [shown] by the domineering US regime toward the Iranian people with Democratic or Republican presidents at the helm of power, what stands out is an irrefutable fact, especially over the past four decades, is that US arrogance and hostility toward the Islamic Republic have not changed,” the IRGC noted in a statement quoted by PressTV.

The statement, referring to the 1953 CIA-backed coup d’état against the democratically elected government of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, and Washington’s animosity toward the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the US puppet government of Shah Reza Pahlavi, was published on the eve of the anniversary of the 4 November 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran.
