Bahareh Hedayat’s Physical Condition Deteriorating After One Week On Hunger Strike

December 28, 2010

Sunday, December 26, 2010 — Bahareh Hedayat, incarcerated student activist who started a hunger strike a week ago protesting the banning of her visitation rights, was transferred to the infirmary at Evin prison.

Reports received by Kaleme from Evin prison indicate that in the past few days, as a result of her deteriorating physical condition, Bahareh Hedayat has been transferred to the infirmary at Evin on numerous occasions. Given that political prisoners are currently banned from telephone calls and Hedayat herself has no visitation rights, there is no credible and confirmed news about her physical condition. It is worth mentioning that according to her husband, Hedayat is suffering from gallstones [which can be life threatening] and according to the prison doctors she needs to be operated on.

Last week the families of Bahareh Hedayat and Mahdieh Golroo arrived at Evin prison only to find out that both of these student activists have been deprived of visitation rights.

According to their cell mates, prison officials have not provided any reason for depriving these two political prisoners of visitation rights. It looks as though their recent statements on the occasion of Student Day (16 Azar) receiving much attention by students both inside and outside of Iran may be the reason for this latest move by prison officials. Prison officials have announced that both Bahareh Hedayat and Mahdieh Golroo will be deprived of visitation rights until further notice.

The families of these two student activists approached the prosecutors office inquiring about their condition after an unsuccessful attempt to visit with them in prison. The officials at the prosecutor’s office however did not provide them with any clear answers to their questions.

Bahareh Hedayat and Mahdieh Golroo have been incarcerated for a year and to date have not been granted leave of absence from prison. They have also been deprived of face to face visitation with their families for a long time.

Breaking news: Execution of Ali Saremi and Ali Akbar Siadat

0

December 28, 2010

IRNA state-run news agency announced this morning:

“This dawn Ali Saremi a member of Monafeghin Terrorist grouplet was hanged this morning at Evin Prison on charge of ‘Moharebeh’ (staging war against God)”.

The political prisoner Ali Saremi who was hanged this morning by the henchmen of Velayat-e-Faghieh has spent about 23 years of his life in prisons and torture chambers of Shah and Clerical dictatorship. He was arrested because he had visited his son in Ashraf City (the place of resident of PMOI members in Iraq) and had attended the commemoration ceremony held at Khavaran for those who fall for freedom in the massacre of political prisoners in 1988, 30000 of them. He was then condemned to death.

Regime had announced that he was arrested because he had participated in Ashura Uprising of 2009 and thus was condemned to execution but he was arrested in 2007 in Khavaran and was in prison since.

The execution of Ali Saremi is a pathetic reaction of Khamenei to the heavy blows that he constantly receives from Iran’s resistance.

Keeping the PMOI in terror list of US due to US appeasement policy towards the clerical dictatorship while this allegation has been ruled our in high courts of Europe and a high court in District of Columbia has ruled that this listing has not gone under its due procedure and the Secretary of State must revise it, gives open hand to the religious fascism in Iran to execute PMOI members and supporters on the excuse of terrorism and ‘Moharebeh’.

We call on all international bodies to put an end to the human right violations in Iran and to send clerical regime’s record of violation of human rights to UN Security Council for taking decisive action against these crimes.

Ali Saremi was executed at Evin prison this morning, December 28 2010 along with another political prisoner by the name of Ali Akbar Siadat.

Political prisoner Ali Sarami hanged after 24 years incarceration

0

December 28, 2010

NCRI – Ali Sarami, 63, member of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), was hanged at dawn on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, after 24 years of incarceration under the clerical and Shah’s rule.

Since the beginning of the clerical rule, Sarami was arrested four times. The last time he was arrested was in August 2007 during a ceremony marking the anniversary of massacre of political prisoners. After the Ashura uprising in December 2009, he was sentenced to death.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, offered her condolences to his family, especially to his son, Akbar, in Camp Ashraf. She said that Ali’s execution highlighted the Iranian regime’s fear of the PMOI and the Iranian Resistance and it was the regime’s way of taking revenge following its repeated failures to plot against Ashraf, which is standing firm and steadfast. She added that this great crime only reflects the regime’s inability and frustration in face of the resolute Iranian youths and members of PMOI who are determined to overthrow the clerical rule and establish freedom and the rule of people in Iran.

The regime’s so called Revolutionary Prosecutor described Sarami’s charge as “publicity activities against the sacred rule of Islamic Republic.” He wrote: “He visited Ashraf and during that he received necessary trainings and returned to the country… and eventually he was arrested in August 2007 for his repeated activities and participation in counter revolutionary ceremonies and gatherings in support of PMOI and dispatching reports to this grouplet (PMOI). During a search in his house some CDs, films, pictures from PMOI and hand written organizational documents linked to the grouplet were found and confiscated.”

The henchmen of the regime subjected Sarami to the most brutal torture and pressures until his last days in a bid to break his resistance, but despite all his ailments and intolerable prison conditions, he stood firm on the ideal of freedom and liberation for the people of Iran and did not yield.

When receiving his death sentence he said: “They cannot frighten me and my freedom-loving compatriots by execution and hanging… The only reason for such sentences is their fear of their own unstable state”.

Following Ali Sarami’s execution, his daughter was arrested by the regime’s henchmen this morning outside Evin Prison in Tehran.

Iran opposition leaders barred from travel abroad

0

Sunday, 26 December 2010 21:23

AP – TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s opposition leaders are barred from leaving the country, a prominent conservative lawmaker said Saturday, hiking up the pressure on the reform movement.

The comments by Mousa Qorbani, a member of the Judicial Committee in parliament, were the first official word of a travel ban on the top opposition figures, Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi — who both ran in the disputed 2009 presidential elections — as well as former reformist president Mohammad Khatami.

Qorbani also suggested the pressure by hard-liners to put the top leaders on trial, a step the government has so far stopped short of taking, though many mid- and low-level figures in the opposition movement have been tried and sentenced to long prison terms in the fierce crackdown that crushed protests following the 2009 vote.

Qorbani said authorities had “recognized” that Mousavi, Karroubi and Khatami are “mohareb” — a term meaning that they are “fighting God.”

“Therefore, they are barred from leaving,” Qorbani was quoted by the state TV-run Youth Journalists Club as saying Saturday.

Many other opposition figures who have been convicted were tried on charges of being “mohareb.” The elite Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s most powerful military force, has pushed for the trial of the three opposition leaders. Jailing Mousavi, the most senior leader, or either of the other two could stoke tensions with the opposition.

Mousavi and Karroubi said in a statement Wednesday that they are already living in a “big prison” and didn’t care if they were put behind bars in a “small prison” for defending the trampled rights of the Iranian nation.

Though no travel ban had been officially announced, Khatami was forbidden to travel to Japan in April to attend a conference on dialogue between cultures.

The opposition claims that Mousavi was the rightful winner of the 2009 election and that hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the winner through massive vote fraud.

Hundreds of thousands of opposition supporters took to the streets in the aftermath of the election in support of Mousavi but their peaceful protest was crushed by the Guard-led forces.

The opposition says more than 80 demonstrators were killed in the turmoil. The government, which puts the number of confirmed deaths at 30, accuses opposition leaders of being “stooges of the West” and of seeking to topple the ruling system through street protests.
