Former Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Mohsen Rezayee said that given the good quality of Iran’s arms products, several countries have demanded to purchase them from Tehran after the expiration of the UN arms embargoes. Ex IRGC Commander

“We have highly good-quality weapons and the countries which had sold us arms in the past have now demanded to purchase our weapons,” Rezayee, the secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council (EC), told reporters in Tehran on Tuesday.

“Our weapons are both inexpensive and high-quality and we can gain billions of dollars through selling arms,” he added.

Rezayee had also earlier this month said that removal of the UN arms ban has introduced a good opportunity to his country to boost its foreign currency income through legitimate weapons trade.

“Although arms bans against Iran were cruel and although the US and Europe will not abide by their removal, the government should correctly plan and use the international gaps as well as the needs of many world states to the advanced Iran-made weapons to gain new foreign currency revenues,” Rezayee said.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement earlier this month that the UN Security Council’s arms restrictions against Tehran have all been terminated in defiance of the United States’ efforts.“As of today [October 18, 2020], all restrictions on the transfer of arms, related activities and financial services to and from the Islamic Republic of Iran, and all prohibitions regarding the entry into or transit through territories of the United Nations Member States previously imposed on a number of Iranian citizens and military officials, are all automatically terminated,” a statement by the Foreign Ministry said. In separate statements, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Army have denounced French President Emanuel Macron for voicing anti-Muslim sentiments.

The IRGC said on Monday that Islamophobia is a failed project which will further accelerate the collapse of the U.S. and the Zionist regime, Mehr reported.

It said Macron’s Islamophobic remarks will not damage the image of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), but rather, it will add further to the dark record of those showing hatred toward Islam in the world.

The satanic scenario has entered a new phase after the recent move by Charlie Hebdo to republish offensive cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the subsequent support from the French president, the IRGC’s statement deplored. denounce

The IRGC also said the insults to Islam reveal the great paradox in the West, particularly in the so-called flag-bearer of freedom of expression in Europe, adding that France is attempting to cover up its failure to prevent the spread of Islam and growing enthusiasm for Islamic teachings.

“The rulers of the hegemonic system and Zionism, which are the main supporters of the extremist and Takfiri movements and creation of horror and violence in the world, would be unable to save the crisis-hit and anti-human West from a self-created quagmire,” it said. The IRGC also warned that France should await an appropriate response from the Muslim community, beyond just a boycott of French products or protests.Similarly, the Army in its Tuesday statement called on Muslims across the world to become united against the “arrogant criminals” in order to root out Islamophobia throughout the world through their unity.According to the Army’s statement, the false proponents of human rights have linked a student’s action against his teacher to Islam.

Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary Of State released the following statement:

Instead of using its natural resource wealth to improve living conditions for the Iranian people, the Iranian regime prefers to pawn its oil to fund the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF) and support its terror proxies as they sow chaos and destruction around the Middle East.  We will not let that happen.

Today, pursuant to Executive Order 13224 (as amended) the United States is imposing sanctions on several Iranian government entities and state-owned enterprises involved in Iran’s energy sector that have provided financial support to the IRGC-QF.  We are also sanctioning several related individuals, entities, and vessels.  These include sanctions on Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum and Minister of Petroleum, the National Iranian Oil Company, the National Iranian Tanker Company, and 21 other individuals, entities, and vessels related to the provision of support or services to the IRGC-QF.

These designations are an important step in the maximum pressure campaign to limit the Iranian regime’s ability to threaten its neighbors and destabilize the Middle East.  Our action will further restrict the scope of activities permitted with the designated individuals and entities, further limiting the Iranian regime’s access to funds it uses to enrich itself and support terrorism around the world.  The few remaining buyers of Iranian crude oil should know that they are helping to fund Iran’s malign activity across the Middle East, including its support for terrorism.

The maximum pressure campaign targets the Iranian regime, not the Iranian people.  That is why, in parallel with these designations, the Department of the Treasury updated a general license related to humanitarian trade and issued associated guidance.  The Iranian regime’s longest-suffering victims are its own people, and the United States supports the Iranian people’s ability to access humanitarian goods.

Is the IRGC pushing Ghalibaf to run for president of Iran?

Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf has been many things in Iran. A former mayor of Tehran, he has run for president three times.

He was an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander in the 1990s, police chief between 2000 and 2005, and then-mayor through 2017. Now he is the speaker of parliament.

These days, Ghalibaf seems to be getting a lot of positive coverage at sites such as Tasnim and Fars News, which are close to the IRGC.

They seem to be highlighting his support for the poor and “the people” more than President Hassan Rouhani.

This could indicate that his profile is being raised prior to elections next year. The goal would be to portray Ghalibaf as actually doing something amid. It is not entirely clear what the agenda is, but in a country where the media is linked to the state but where there are competing agendas, the decision by media to highlight one person and not another has a message. This is because rather than highlighting criticism of Rouhani, which the Supreme Leader in Iran has condemned due to recent insults of the president, it is easier to just not mention Rouhani and make the speaker of parliament visible at all times.  Ghalibaf was criticized by Rouhani earlier this month for visiting a hospital where the speaker met victims of COVID-19. It appears Rouhani sees his recent trips as a form of populism aimed at increasing his stature among people by showing he is in tune with the crisis.  It is worth watching Ghalibaf in the upcoming months since he has been portrayed as trying to listen to the people in various regions of Iran and solve their problems. Ghalibaf also has an interesting and diverse background, as his father was Kurdish. Whether he will try to run for president again and succeed remains to be seen.

The Revolutionary Guards Publish Their Methods to Suppress Protests

The Revolutionary Guards Corps has publicly outlined the tactics it uses to suppress public protests.

Some of them, which a new article refers to as “controlling subversive collective actions,” will be recognizable to Iranians who took part in nationwide protests in November 2019, and particularly to those who were targeted by security forces’ bloody response.

The tactics the Revolutionary Guards use to suppress public protests have been outlined in an article published in the quarterly publication Afagh-e Amniat [Security Horizons], which is affiliated with the Imam Hossein University run by the Guards.

These tactics were used against protesters over the last three years, and in particular during the brutal suppression of demonstrations in 2019.

Figures for the number of people killed by law enforcement, security forces, and intelligence agents during the November 2019 protests against increased gas prices differ substantially.

One media report cited it as 250 deaths; another put the number at 1500.

As the first anniversary of the bloody repression approaches, Iranian authorities, from the most senior leaders to the bottom rank officials, refuse to take responsibility for these deaths.

Not only that, but they continue to punish protesters, issuing heavy sentences against them, and in some cases, even death sentences.

Over the last year, there has been no sign of remorse for this violence, and the perpetrators of the suppression have not been sent to trial or been held accountable.

At the same time, the atmosphere in Iran has become more like a police state, with security forces becoming more of a daily presence everywhere.

During the last year, fewer protest rallies have been allowed, and most of them have been dealt with severely. The regime’s treatment of protesters has become more agitated and violent.
