Two civilians killed by IRGC forces in northwest Iran

0

Two Kurdish brothers were killed on Wednesday evening when Iranian security forces fired on their vehicle in Kurdish-majority western Iran, according to a human rights monitor.  This comes just two days after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) killed ten Baloch civilians in the south east.

Three security force vehicles on Wednesday afternoon surrounded the pickup truck of Abdollah and Osman Naderi, who were travelling in between the villages of Shinabad and Zeydan, just outside the Kurdish city of Piranshahr. The security forces, believed to be from the ministry of intelligence and the IRGC, peppered the vehicle with bullets to the horrors of onlookers in the area, according to rights monitor Hengaw.

“There was no warning shot and they just fired upon the vehicle and killed the two brothers instantly,” according to witnesses speaking to Hengaw.

The bodies were seized by the security forces and taken to Piranshahr, the monitor reported.

This is not an isolated case. Security forces and police in the northwestern and western cities of Iran open fire with impunity, injuring and killing innocent locals.

On February 20, two other men in Sardasht were shot and killed by security forces yesterday. The two men were dodging bullets, when they fell off the cliff and drowned in a river.

The two men were identified as Abubakr Mohammadi, 36-years-old, and Eskandar Mohammad, 35-years-old.

The Iranian regime’s security forces and the IRGC have a history of shooting and killing innocent civilians. There are daily reports of IRGC forces opening fire on Kurd border porters in western Iran and civilians carrying fuel in southeastern Iran.

،There are over 200 cases of civilians killed by IRGC forces in 2020 alone. At least 74 citizens were killed, including 36 porters, 5 fuel carriers and 33 other citizens. The 2020 arbitrary shootings injured at least 130 people.

Iran: Lord Alton Calls on UK Government to Hold Iran Responsible for its Terrorism on European Soil

0

The Lord Alton of Liverpool, a British politician, has written a letter to the British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, calling him to hold the Iranian regime responsible for its acts of state-sponsored terrorism. His letter comes just after the conviction of Assadollah Assadi, the Iranian regime’s terrorist diplomat that was the mastermind of a plot to bomb a gathering held by the regime’s opposition in June 2018 just outside Paris.

In his letter, Lord Alton emphasised that the investigation into the plot shows “beyond any doubt that this was an act of state terrorism by the regime in Iran against the country’s organised pro-democracy opposition, The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), by targeting their conference, leader and supporters on European soil”.

Furthermore, the diplomat used his diplomatic credentials to take the bomb from Iran to Europe on a commercial flight, proceeding to transport it across Europe. This, Lord Alton emphasised, is something that cannot be overlooked – a diplomat taking advantage of his credentials to “plan, facilitate and carry out this terrorist bombing that could have led to a bloodbath and killed many”.

Netanyahu: Israel will prevent a nuclear Iran whether or not a deal is in place

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday vowed Israel would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, regardless of whether a multilateral accord is in place to prevent Tehran from doing so.

The comments came hours after Iranian state TV reported that the Islamic Republic has officially begun restricting international inspections of its nuclear facilities.

“On the eve of the Purim holiday, I say to those who seek to harm us — Iran and its proxies in the Middle East: 2,500 years ago, another Persian tyrant tried to destroy the Jewish people and just as he failed then – you too will fail,” Netanyahu said at a memorial ceremony in the northern town of Tel Hai, referencing the Purim story.

Addressing Iranian leaders, Netanyahu said Israel wouldn’t allow “your extremist and aggressive regime” to acquire nuclear arms.

Iran says it will end snap IAEA inspections if nuclear deal terms not met

Iran said on Monday it will block snap inspections by the UN nuclear watchdog from next week if other parties to the 2015 nuclear deal do not fulfil their obligations, a challenge to US President Joe Biden’s hope of reviving the accord.

“If others do not fulfil their obligations by Feb. 21, the government is obliged to suspend the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said.

“It does not mean ending all inspections by the UN nuclear watchdog…All these steps are reversible if the other party changes its path and honors its obligations,” he said, alluding to the United States.

The Biden administration aims to return the United States to the nuclear deal, which his predecessor Donald Trump abandoned in 2018. Under the deal, Iran agreed to curbs on its uranium enrichment program in return for the lifting of sanctions.

After Trump quit and reimposed sanctions, Iran began violating some limits in the deal. Washington and Tehran now disagree over how best to restore the accord, with both sides demanding the other side act first to return to compliance.

Dozens of Baloch Citizens Killed or Wounded by IRGC Forces

IRGC forces in Iran clashed with Baloch locals on Monday who carry fuel over the border region in Sistan and Baluchestan. Initial reports indicate that at least 8 people were killed and dozens were wounded and were taken to hospital. While the IRGC controls Iran’s economy and organized smuggling network, it kills deprived porters.

IRGC forces dug large holes near the Iran-Pakistan borders preventing fuel porters’ movement. When deprived locals protested, the IRGC forces opened fire on protesters, killing at least eight people and injuring dozens. IRGC forces have dumped the bodies of several victims into a canal and have not allowed anyone to approach the bodies.

Reports say the IRGC opened fire inside a village forcing all the villagers including women and children to flee. No one could enter the village until this time. Baloch activists’ campaign reported has identified three of the locals who were killed following the IRGC attack as Abdul Rahman Shahrestani, Rahman Bakhsh Dehwari, and Anas Sahebzadeh.

According to Rasanak, a regional human rights news agency a state of martial law has been established in Sheston city with various security and military forces, all of whom are non-natives, patrolling the city,.

Due to the gathering of the victims’ families in front of Razi Hospital and Sheston City morgue, the streets leading to these places have been completely closed.

According to informed sources, “the IRGC has asked the ‘Mersad Force’ for help in dispersing the locals, and they also arrived with full equipment, and the Baloch fuel operators are surrounded by border guards.”

“The death toll and injuries are more than 50 people, and despite the siege, ambulances are transporting the bodies of the dead and wounded,” the Baloch activists’ campaign reported.

The reports said that dozens of locals’ vehicles were set on fire by the IRGC.

Sistan and Baluchistan is one of the poorest provinces in Iran. Baluchi ethnic minorities are under the double pressure of poverty and the regime’s oppressive measures. To make ends meet and feed their families, deprived Baluchi citizens have to carry a few gallons of fuel to eastern Pakistan.

The IRGC forces take the lion’s share of what fuel porters earn, and when they refuse to pay them, the IRGC forces open fire on them. In addition, the fuel carriers have to endure dangers of the road, extreme hot weather, or having fatal road accidents.

Biden: US must address Iran’s ‘destabilizing activities’

President Joe Biden said on Friday it is imperative that the US works with other global powers to curb Iran’s “destabilizing activities.”

Addressing the Munich Security Conference, he also said his administration is “prepared to re-engage in negotiations” with the UN Security Council on Tehran’s nuclear program.

“We must address Iran’s destabilizing activities across the Middle East,” Biden said. “We will work with our European, and other, partners as we proceed.”

Earlier, his administration said it was ready to engage in talks with Iran and world powers to discuss a return to the 2015 nuclear deal, more formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Former President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the deal in 2018.

Hamdan Al-Shehri, a Saudi political analyst and international relations scholar, told Arab News that it appears there is a tacit agreement between the US and Iran about the nuclear issue.

Family of Americans held hostage in Iran urges Biden administration to make release key part of Iran policy

0

The family of two Iranian-Americans held in Iran is urging the Biden administration to make the release of hostages a key part of its Iran policy and to ensure that they are not left behind again.

Babak Namazi, the son of Baquer and brother of Siamak Namazi, told reporters Monday that it “pains (him) greatly that we are now in into a third administration, with both (his) brother and father still being held captive.”

“As the Biden administration develops its new Iran policy, my family expects that President Biden and his administration will not make concessions or deals with Iran that do not include, and indeed require as a precondition, the release of my father and Siamak,” Babak said. “Their releases should not be a subsequent step. That approach by both the Obama and Trump administrations failed.”

Siamak was blocked from leaving Iran after visiting in July 2015 and underwent months of interrogations before being arrested in October 2015. Exactly five years ago, his father, Baquer, was lured to Iran under the false premise that he would be able to see his son. He was instead immediately taken into custody at that time.
